Asteya

When we think that we are automatically entitled to something, that is when we start walking all over others to get it.

Asteya is the yogic practice of not stealing. Not to take-which is obvious at some level. Not to walk into someone else’s home and take what doesn’t belong to us....and that may have happened.

And also, the ways we can take more than is being offered. Whether it is from someone’s time by being late. Or by taking from someone’s moment by trying to insert our own moment. Or by taking from our bodies by the foods and beverages we either eat or aren’t eating. Or from the earth in the multitude of unsustainable ways we are. Or even on our mats by stealing from our back or shoulders by pushing into a backbend or bind. Or staying up late binge watching and stealing from our day the next day. Just to make a few examples.

So many examples of this one Yama. Can you think of any others? How do you make this a practice?
