Stress-Free Holidays

You’re not alone if the end of the year has you feeling scattered or stressed. The practices of Yoga are ideal for releasing stress, remembering our center point and finding a steady internal seat of joy that doesn’t hinge up upon external circumstances—any time of year. Here are a few you can try anytime, anywhere whether you have your yoga pants on or not:

1)              Find the earth. Sit or lay down on the ground.

2)              Be still. For 5 minutes wide awake without your phone, without the television on, without folding laundry….eyes closed if you’re safe and willing, and notice what you notice.

3)              Simple, potent breathing practices (that many of us already know). Such as lengthening out the exhale, or holding the breath in and holding the breath out for a short pause, or keeping the inhale and exhale even and steady in length, quality and rhythm.

4)              Try a squat. Any squat that you know and feel safe in, like a horse stance. Hold long enough that you can feel your bones rooting down through your feet into the earth, the heat rise back up and your breath deepen.

5)              Try a hip or hamstring posture. Again any one that you already know is a great place to start. Without pushing or forcing. Rest in long enough that you can attune to sensation.

Short and sweet and helps us feel grounded in our bodies instead of lost in the busy holiday hustle.
